PTA POWDERS

These tungsten carbide based powders are specifically adapted for PTA applications. The mesh size of the carbides, as well as the nickel chrome powder, have been selected so as to provide maximum efficiency when applied with PTA systems.


All of our powders have the following basic characteristics:

Concentration: Standard 60% Tungsten Carbide by weight.
Other concentrations can be supplied as per user preferred specifications.

Matrix: Nickel-Chrome-Boron with a hardness of 40 Hv
Matrix hardnesses of 30Rc and 60Rc are also available on request.

Average Hardness of carbides: 2700 Hv ± 300 Hv
Note: This is the average hardness measured AFTER application of the powder by the PTA process. The measured hardness BEFORE application can be noticeable higher.

Mesh size: As specified below.


PTA 1170

This powder addresses applications where abrasion and erosion resistance is desirable. It also provides an optimum distribution of tungsten carbide particles.

Mesh size of carbides: coarse but adapted to parameters of PTA machinery and to the abrasion/erosion resistance objective.

Available in 5 kg (11 lb) containers.




PTA 160

This is an all purpose hardsurfacing product with exceptional properties due to the Spherotene® content.

Mesh size of carbides: 40 to 160 microns.

Available in 5 kg (11 lb) containers.



PTA 110

This powder addresses applications where thin overlays and a particularly smooth surface finish after grinding is beneficial.

Mesh size of carbides: less than 40 microns.

Available in 5 kg (11 lb) containers.


PTA 240

This powder addresses applications where thick overlays and abrasion resistance are the main concern.

Mesh size of carbides: coarse but adapted to parameters of PTA machinery and to the abrasion resistance objective.

Available in 5 kg (11 lb) containers.
