PTA Powders

S.P.R.S. is now able to supply powders for PTA application process.

There is a severe lack of information on the various powders which can be applied through the PTA process, and there is great confusion between PTA which is an application process and the powders required for a specific application.

Through in house research and experimentation, S.P.R.S. is now able to suggest and select powders adapted to specific services.

Further development have lead to extending the field of effective powders, so as to allow the use of larger carbides and improve wear resistance. These powders, which require a slight modification of the PTA process can be applied by S.P.R.S. on customer supplied parts.

SPRS PTA 1170

This premium powder incorporates large fused spherical cast WC particles in an NiCrBSi matrix. Please note that not all PTA nozzles will function with this powder as the carbide size is significantly larger than standard powders.

  • Typical WC particle size: 55-400 um
  • WC content: 60% by weight
  • Avg WC hardness: 2700 Hv
  • Matrix hardness: ~45 HRc

Available in 5 kg (11 lb) containers.

SPRS PTA 1064N

This powder consists of macrocrystaline angular WC particles in an NiBSi matrix.

  • Typical WC particle size: 50-180 um
  • WC content: 60% by weight
  • Avg WC hardness: 2200 Hv
  • Matrix hardness: ~45 HRc

Available in 5 kg (11 lb) containers.

Other powders can be supplied as per customer specification. These powders are specifically designed for PTA applications. The carbides, as well as matrix powder, have been selected so as to perform well with standard PTA equipment.
